CPE doesn't show up / won't activate
Symptom: the technician installed a new device, but it doesn't show up in Cpehub, or shows up but won't activate.
Quick diagnosis
New device won't activate
Does it show up in Cpehub?
NoContinue diagnosisYes, "Awaiting activation"Activate the CPEYes, but disappears laterCheck signal / power
Is the OLT communicating?
NoFix the OLT connectionYesForce discovery / check the PON port
Step by step
-
Look for the device in CPEs by serial or by position (Frame/Slot/Port). Also filter by Status → Awaiting activation.
-
If it shows up as "Awaiting activation": just activate it. See Activate a CPE.
-
If it doesn't show up:
- Check whether the OLT is connected to Cpehub — Test the OLT connection. If the SSH/SNMP/TRAP badges are red, fix that first (OLT disconnected).
- Confirm the ONU was plugged into the correct PON port and has signal.
- Force a sync/discovery on the OLT.
-
If it shows up and then disappears: there's probably a signal (LOS) or intermittent power issue — see Poor signal or LOS and CPE with no power.
Most common causes
| Cause | Indication | Action |
|---|---|---|
| OLT disconnected from Cpehub | Red SSH/SNMP/TRAP badges | OLT disconnected |
| ONU on the wrong port / no signal | Doesn't show up in discovery | Check installation/PON port |
| Just needs activating | "Awaiting activation" status | Activate a CPE |
| Uncertified device | Unknown model | Check certified manufacturers |
| Intermittent signal/power | Shows up and disappears | Check signal/power |
When to escalate
- OLT still not communicating after checking → engineering/NOC.
- ONU with OK signal, on the right port, and still not showing up → Cpehub support.
