Activate a CPE
Goal: authorize a newly installed device that shows up as "Awaiting activation", so it goes into operation.
When a technician installs a new ONU at the customer's location, it's detected by the OLT and shows up in Cpehub with the Awaiting activation status. While in this state, the device is not yet authorized to operate. Activating is the step that brings the customer online.
Prerequisites
Check off items as you confirm them. This is just a visual aid, so reloading the page unchecks everything again.
- The customer's OLT is already registered and connected in Cpehub.
- The device shows up in the CPE list with the Awaiting activation status.
- (Recommended) ERP integration configured, to associate the CPE with the customer record.
How to identify CPEs awaiting activation
You have two options:
- On the Dashboard, the "Awaiting activation" card shows the current count. Click it to go straight to the filtered list.
- In the CPEs area, use the Status → Awaiting activation filter.
Step by step
-
Open the CPE you want to activate by clicking View CPE on the corresponding row.
-
On the detail screen, confirm that the status (on the card on the left, below the serial) shows Awaiting activation.
-
Click the green Activate button, in the top-right corner.
-
Confirm the action in the window that appears. If ERP integration is active, Cpehub may offer to associate the CPE with a contract/customer at this point.
Expected result
After activating, the status is no longer "Awaiting activation" and the CPE moves to an operational state (usually Online). From there, depending on the configuration, the device may automatically receive its initial configuration (WiFi, WAN) — see Automations.
Common issues
| Symptom | Likely cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The CPE doesn't show up to activate | The OLT isn't communicating, or the trap/discovery didn't run | Check the OLT connection and see CPE doesn't show up / won't activate |
| I activated it, but the customer is still offline | Missing service configuration (VLAN/PPPoE) or provisioning | See Customer with no connection |
| I can't associate it with the customer | Missing ERP integration or mismatched data | See Integrations and Mismatched ERP data |
